Our Edible garden

The focus of this term is to turn our garden into an edible garden......We have been working hard to change all our garden beds into edible produce...

The only rules we have are if you can't eat it we don't plant it.

So far we have planted:

Herbs: parsley, chicory, chives, sage, pineapple sage, thyme, lemon thyme, hot and spicy oregano, cress, basil, Thai basil, tarragon, coriander, rocket, mint, apple mint, Vietnamese mint, bay tree, rosemary and a curry bush....

Alexander made these herb boxes for us.....

Fruit Trees: 2 way peach/nectarine, cherry, pink lady apples, pear, red currants, lemon, strawberries, crab apple, cherry plums, kaffir lime, black currants, blueberries, raspberries, apricot, granny smith apples, mulberries, Japanese plum, orange and 2 way cherry plum/plum

This bed is our very yummy strawberries....what we see when we see this is lots of strawberry sauce and jams....yum yum yum
This is a row of our miniature fruit trees...
and our wonderful chooks doing their job around the blueberry trees and raspberries....

and lots of beautiful blossoms....we have a few large fruit trees and at the moment our garden is covered in pink and white blossoms

Veggies: kale, tatsoi, potato's, pumpkin, baby beets, cucumber, lettuce, tomato, leek, carrots, sweet corn, broad beans, peas, beans, radish, broccoli.....and this is just the start

our potato bed and u can just see the green of our new potatoes sprouting....

the new area for the pumpkins.....
And we have also added our first nut tree: Hazel nut

we have been putting our chooks to work, helping us scratch around where we have dug....and boy are they loving it....we also  have the chooks for lots of eggs for all our home baking.....

Also our ducks have been doing wonders with the slugs and snails....

Grab a coffee cause this is a big post......lol

Haven't blogged for awhile so have a fair bit to catch up on, so go grab a coffee and enjoy...
Will fill you all in on Nicholas first as he is excited to show you all his new girl Ferret Jess......who is so so so cute.....and very very cheeky...

Hagrid is smitten and they play for hours bobbing and running a muck....We have always believed that a pet needs another pet for company, for as much as you would like to be with them 24/7 you can't . Nicholas just loves his ferrets and spends as much time as he can with them...though he does say that 2 make so much more poop....lol

Nicholas likes that they tire themselves out now during the day playing, and that he gets peace and quiet all night.......

Bathing them is a whole new ball game......we can never get a pick of jess as she hates the water and just screams.....and omg you have never heard anything like it.....it scares the daylights out of us. Hagrid on the other hand loves a bath or shower, but a nice warm bath is his favorite....as you see in this pic he is just chilling lol

Nicholas has also been very very creative both in the kitchen and with sewing.......I think we have the next masterchef in our house....lol....sorry everyone else... Nicholas want's to bake everyday, everything from bread to dinners to desserts......
here he was cooking tortilla's for tea and boy they were so yummy

here he is making cheese with his brother

and he even makes his own muesli

Nicholas is also making himself a huge rug for his floor, its alot of work but he is giving it a good go......

Can't wait to show you all his finished product.......

Have to show you all a couple of great pics that Alexander took of the frost outside, on our car and our outside mat, they are just amazing....he has captured the way we look at frost in a whole new light.

 On an Mat
 And on another outside mat

Alexander has also been working hard on his chicken coop, and now has his chickens...Each day he goes out and spends time with them and is always at the library getting any books on chickens and also researching about sustainable gardening....we are all enjoying the fresh eggs (lots of baking)...Alexander is next going to work on a compost garden, we already have our worms up and running....The we are going to get to work on our no dig vegi gardens...He has 2 show chickens who he has named Foghorn and Miss Prisses and yes they are the leghorns. He also has some beautiful Japanese bantams and  Plymouth rocks....

Its funny really we had alot of people say we wouldn't make it past five years....and ohhhhh how i hope they see this post!!!!!!!!. We have been together for a total of 18 years and so proud of our amazing children and the accomplishments we have made during this time. Life is not easy these days with Glenn's injury and coping with our eldest with autism. Yet we still have each other to give us the strength to get through these trials.

Glenn and I had hoped to go out to dinner together to celebrate our anniversary, but yes not enough funds......Then our amazing kids said we are going to do dinner for you and daddy.....Like what did u just say.....lol.....Tonight they are going to do us dinner with an entree, main and dessert....They are going to put candles on the table and eat in another room so we can be together.....and we r having a bell on our table to ring when we need our glass refilled or anything else......God how i love my kids and am so excited about Glenn and I having a special evening tonight.....and even better that they are doing this for us.....So thankyou boys and Happy Anniversary Glenn luv u round the world and back........
